The situation

What we found

  • The annual fixed-asset verification took a team of six almost three weeks, and still closed with a schedule of items marked “not sighted”.
  • Equipment moved between branches informally. The register recorded where an asset was bought, not where it currently sat.
  • Access to server rooms and vaults relied on a card that could be lent, and a visitor book nobody reconciled.
  • Branch queue times were discussed in every management meeting and measured in none of them.

Facial recognition on server rooms and vault doors, with fingerprint at the till for supervisor overrides. A card can be handed to a colleague; a face cannot.
